I’m Yasmin Benoit (@theyasminbenoit), an alternate model and asexuality activist from Berkshire, England.
After getting a system through my modeling, I decided to publicly come-out as asexual in belated 2017 making use of goal of providing even more representation for asexual folk. Since then, I’ve involved understand that there are actually considerably asexual individuals out there than might originally believe, but we mainly get unseen. It’s our shortage of visibility which plays a part in prevalent and damaging stereotypes about asexual folk.
A misconception that I’ve experienced alot is that there’s an asexual solution to check or dress, also it’s a bad one. Asexual individuals are believed becoming “too unattractive” to have somebody. On top of that, we’re not supposed to generate ourselves check “attractive” by dressing because we’re perhaps not trying to sexually entice anyone. Not merely performs this think that everyone merely outfit to please rest and not themselves — it means that asexual anyone can’t victory in any event.
Whenever I was presented with the chance to compose for Qwear, I decided to begin the #ThisIsWhatAsexualLooksLike show and hashtag to provide the service back into asexual individuals, to ensure we can easily express ourselves. I wanted giving all of us a platform to show there is no asexual way to appear or outfit. Contained in this model of the series, We thought we would target asexual femmes, to highlight the experiences navigating a global which sexualizes you and all of our self-presentation. I’m pleased for every for the asexual those that have participated in this new section for the collection.
